Mysuru Rail Museum
Indian railways is considered as a lifeline of nation. It connects every small village to major cities with over 65,000 kms. of track length and more than 160 years of history! We take great pride in designing a railway museum at Mysuru.
The museum is spread over 3 acres of land adjoining Mysuru railway station. It houses beautifully restored vintage railway engines, coaches, emblems and artifacts.
Site planning of the museum was largely driven by existing tree cover on the site. Orientation of the indoor galleries, connecting pathways and placement of outdoor exhibits was carefully designed to avoid cutting of trees.
Plain, monochromatic and unembellished exterior finish of the built form acts as a backdrop for vintage locomotives. Indoor spaces are also purposefully kept unadorned to make the artifacts stand out.
The material palette of the museum includes colourful Athangudi tiles, oxide flooring and polished wooden furniture that are reminiscent of the heritage character of Mysore city.
