Bombay Duck Designs Studio
Sameer Kulavoor, the founder of ‘Bombay Duck Designs’ (BDD) is known for his ingenious style of illustrations. His ability to creatively capture the details of everyday objects, people and artworks inspired by the city life of Mumbai has gained him recognition across the globe. Sameer runs his studio with his sister Zeenat Kulavoor who is a typographer and graphic designer.
The studio space has a classic character complemented by wooden ceiling, arched windows and timber flooring. It is set at a mezzanine level, which is accessible through a ladder.
Design of the studio took shape with the core idea of flexibility and simplicity while retaining the original framework and character of the space.
Areas such as Pantry, washroom and staircase are arranged on one side of the studio, leaving the rest of the area open to flexible use. The workspace is divided into different sections by making the use of makeshift roller blinds that were fashioned out of bamboo. The flexible design helped ‘Bombay Duck Designs’ to share their passion of making zines by organising couple of small public events.
The part of the studio has been converted into a gallery/art shop, where products and artworks by various illustrators, designers and artists are on display and available for purchase.
